At Rory Andrews Landscape Design we believe that house and garden should be treated as one entity, connecting the residents to nature and elevating their standard of living. The garden should reflect the style of the house, whilst developing cohesion with the surrounding landscape. We ensure that each week of the year brings new interest, from emerging winter flowers, through spring and summer, then into the fiery displays of autumn.
Established in 2012, Rory Andrews Landscape Design works with private clients, architects and property developers to get the best out of their existing or proposed landscape. Whether you desire a traditional or modern garden, we will work with you to create a space that exceeds your vision and connects you with nature, whilst crucially catering to your functional and aesthetic desires.

Rory first worked as a gardener in two Oxford University Colleges before moving on to maintain a number of large private gardens in South Oxfordshire. Obtaining a BA in Garden Design between 2006-09, Rory then went to work for a top end design firm in Hampshire before setting up on his own in 2012. His 18 years working as a gardener has given him an in-depth knowledge in planting and an appreciation for nature and the changing seasons. His gardening experience has also taught him all the tricks to get the most out of a garden, whilst keeping it low maintenance.
How we work –
We provide a range of different services, from any number of the individual services listed below to a full design package from design conception through to monitoring the garden build; after which we compile a strategy for the ongoing development of your growing garden.

Initial Consultation
This will include a site visit to assess the existing landscape, as well as to discuss your functional and aesthetic needs. From this meeting, your garden brief and estimated design fee proposal will be compiled. The initial consultation is chargeable at a rate of half a day, though this sum will be deducted from the stage 1 concept plan fees, should you wish to instruct us.

Concept Plan Phase
Taking your garden brief and using it to compile a garden masterplan, mood boards and perspective sketches. Between these 3 media, you will be able to visualise and develop the overall design of the garden.

Planning Plans
All relevant planning plans that you may need to submit to your local authority, including:
- Hard and Soft Landscaping Schemes for new builds, including the requisite 5-year landscape management plans
- Swimming pool and tennis court planning plans
- Tree removal plans
- Tree root protection plans

Construction Drawings Phase
Once the garden concept plans have been agreed, the construction drawings phase will produce the working drawings and specification that are necessary for a number of landscape contractors to quote for the building of the garden. The contractors will then use the documents as an instruction manual to build the garden.

Construction Monitoring
In order to ensure that your garden design becomes a reality, it is paramount for a designer to monitor the build of the garden. This will include emails, telephone calls and site visits throughout the build process, as well as any necessary amendments to the design, which can be an ever-evolving process.

Planting Plans
These will include a breakdown of all the plants to be planted within the design. The planting plans will also be accompanied by a photomontage of all the plants in their given combinations, in order to help you visualise the proposed planting scheme.

Plant Maintenance Schedule
This is a booklet that details the month-by-month maintenance requirements for each plant in the garden. This will ensure that your garden continues to grow as planned. The maintenance schedule may be used by you, the client, or by a chosen garden maintenance professional. We also suggest a designer visit to the garden at least once a year to advise on your garden as it evolves.
